| Media Misguidance |
| The Print and Television Media can also misguide the Public on hair matters - unknowingly in many cases. This page presents some examples of tips / articles in the Media about hair care that I chanced to come across. | |
| They just do not / cannot have well qualified and experienced personnel on all subjects. They manage some articles from persons known to them and or from others who advertise. Worse is the fact that some tips / suggestions are in advertorials and sponsored feature pages et cetera - they are not necessarily unbiased | |
| The assumed Watch Dogs of the Public ! know the understated bit, for balance | |
| When Sonia Gandhi came
to Ahmedabad after the Gujarat riots, the Congress Party was to hand over
a cover containing Rs 500/- to
the reporters who attended the press conference.
The cover contained only Rs 400/-. A Hundred Rupee note was missing - leakage in transit. True to tradition or something similar, was the comment in Times, Ahmedabad report The Reporters took the money. There was not any mention of any reporter refusing to accept the cover, in that Times report. That is the tragic reality. And it is a relevant point to keep in mind |
|
Between 1993 to 1998, I have gone through articles in Vogue, New Scientist and some Indian magazines picked up occasionally from the nearby Circulating Library. Some more are mentioned below to emphasise the point that you should have basic knowledge of Hair and Haircare right and not accept everything in print, in total faith. You only gain or suffer for your approach
| Article on Haircare - joke or shallow depth ? both Times of India | |
| A
Joke: From a write-up titled 'Hair Raising' by
Kalpana Deuskar in the Sunday supplement of Times of India, the following
causes for Hair Loss were mentioned.
"Genes or General Health, Iron Deficiency, Protein deficiency, Chronic Stomach problem, Heavy Cardiovascular drugs, Male hormones, birth control pills, some tranquilizers, antibiotics, acne drugs, arthritis, gout medication and Chemotherapy drugs". How Educative and encouraging this article is ? Whatever you do, you are doomed. You cannot avoid Hair Loss. Almost every person in today's World, will have one or the other of the above problems Would it not have been simpler and more helpful, had they written that anyone wearing a Sari, Shirt, Blouse, Dhoti or an underwear is liable to suffer from Hair Loss due to natural, unnatural and yet to be discovered additional reasons, which may be printed in future by this Daily or its sister publications ? |
|
| Who cares ? You and hundred others can waste Time and Money ? | |
| I objected to Times
of India for writing such a scary and meaningless article.I
questioned the Ethics and sense of printing such articles.
A copy of that article, Dermatological facts, my Research findings that negate some or all the causes stated in that article, the Medical books that I can quote in support, etc were sent to that Paper. I sent them 2 Hair Regain photo proofs also. I conveyed the relevant details to seven other leading English Newspapers in India to assess their "Ethical Standards" / views. Not a Single Newspaper bothered to respond. That is Business Practice in actual form to be accepted as the Tragic Reality. Who suffers ? We, the Public |

| Mangaiyar Malar - Tamil Ladies Magazine: Hair Tips / advices or free promotion for a Seller | |
| This magazine, one can
assume, would be read by at least 4 lakhs females. The
magazine is morally guilty of misguiding these readers by writing a faulty
article / giving wrong advice -
a magazine supported by Rajaji, who had the foresight and wisdom in 1957 to call Nehru's ill conceived moves as setting up 'Permit License Raj' and nurturing corruption in public enterprises. [ an upright politician by today's standards, a writer in English and Tamil [ Ramayan and Mahabharat of Bhavan's - I read them in 1960. I was a reader of Swarajya from 1958 onwards ] In one issue that I chanced to read, the Beauty Consultant has suggested the use of 'Mehandi' for Blackening the Hair. The consultant's advertisement was also in that and some other issues.[ A regular advertiser can always get additional publicity in the print as a writer or in other ways. ] How many women will dare to apply Mehendi if it can turn their hands black ? Mehandi makes the skin Red. Women apply Mehendi for that reason only, especially on auspicious occasions. Based on that advice, if some person used Mehendi and got the hair turned to Orangish Red, will the Magazine or the Writer do anything for the sufferer ? Around 1994, I met my 1967-69 Hostel Assistant at IIM Ahmedabad. He had flaming orangish hair on the head. When I asked him the reason, he said he was misguided by some to use Mehendi to cover his grey hair. Black and White Hair are at least normal and look natural |

| Baseless and unsupported boast by a Doctor at AIMI - Publicity courtesy - Business Today | |
| In one issue of 1995,
there was a one page write up on Hair Care by their correspondent. A practising
Dermatologist in the All India Medical Institute of Delhi
asserted
to the reporter, without any proof, that application
of Hair Oil is the Cause for Dandruff.
The Magazine published that.
Here lies the Danger. [ I cannot recall the name of the Doctor. I think
Simon Bhargava is the name of the writer ]
As per Published Dermatological data, the causes for Dandruff are not exactly known as of October 1997 / June 2005. There is no proven or direct correlation between Dandruff and hair oil application. Please refer to the section on Dandruff or Medical Limits. 60% of visitors to this site in June 2005 refer to Dandruff related pages. Indians are just 2% of visitors. That is hard reality for you. It was a vain and baseless statement, without accounting the consequences on the public. Even if that Doctor has driven out Dandruff from his fellow Doctors' heads, it would be a wonder. The Doctor and the Magazine are guilty of Misguiding the Readers. I objected to the Magazine, the Doctor and the writer for printing wrong Medical details which may misguide some readers. They did not bother to reply me directly or print a correction or explanatory note |

| Consumer Awareness Magazine - it matters not ! | |
| Consumer Education and
Research Centre, that is CERC,
Ahmedabad publishes a magazine, Insight. Perhaps around 2000,
it printed an article on Haircare to educate the
hairloss sufferers
Shri Manubhai, [ Chairman / CEO ] referred to me after publication. Some of the basic medical facts were wrong and some other details were casual. I pointed out the errors. Did they print or correct the mistakes in the next edition ? No. The readers who believed them, lost. What was the qualification of the writer - bald husband of one of the employees, who can write fairly good English ! [ Testing Laboratory: During that visit, Shri Manubhai also asked his personnel to show me the Laboratory and testing methods. It was not well equipped in terms of equipments, testing facilities, procedure and personnel. Some Newspapers reprint some parts of their Press Notes too, without knowing the basic drawbacks. Manubhai got publicity for fighting the air fare rates in in 1975 and he raised that afterwards. Sunita Narain, with perhaps much less resources in comparison, has done a better job for Public safety and Consumer Awareness in the last 15 years ] |

| Oil and Dandruff - inferences from products in the Indian Market | |
| Marico is now advertising
their "Dandruff Solution" and claims that Tea Tree Oil has anti dandruff
properties. And the base, is Coconut oil only.
Let us turn to Dabur India Ltd., a company that is over 100 years old and
specialising in Ayurvedic Preparations. They have come out 'Vatika anti-dandruff
Shampoo' as per their advertisements broadcast in Zee TV between
2130 to 2200 hours program on 1-10-2000. [ it is a different matter that
some months back, they did say that Chemical Shampoos can damage the hair
and so, Use Vatika, based on Natural items]
Either these 2 companies are bluffing the public or the Doctor of All India Institute of Medical Sciences is right. Only one can be right. Let them fight and establish their reliability to the public Where the Tea Tree Oil has gone in 2006 ? we do not see the advertisements now. Around 1997 or so, AHA was the toast. It has also perished. Aug 2007: Marico's Dandruff Solution does not seem to have worked. I have not seen any advertisement on TV. Now they have come out with Hairloss solution |

| "When asked to bend, they chose to Crawl" | |
| That was Mr.L.K.
Advani's apt comment about the Media's role during the Emergency in 1977.
Mr. Cho Ramaswamy, a bold and forthright editor, had his own method of
expressing his opinion about some paper at Shanmukananda Hall, Bombay
even at that time -
emergency.
If India suffers today from Excessive Corruption, it is also because the Media failed in the discharge of its "duties and responsibilities " for the benefit of the Public. Does the 4th Pillar of Democracy come to the aid of the common man ? You have to assess |

| Civil suits in US - Belated Legal remedies | |
| Business India, page 135, issue for fortnight ending 13-12-1998. | |
| " In the largest civil
lawsuit settlement in history, the major US tobacco
companies have agreed to pay the American states $ 206 billion and submit
to marketing and advertising restrictions. The companies will also
pay $ 1.5 Billion over the next five years to fund anti-smoking education
programmes, with another $ 300 million subsequently to maintain these programmes.
The industry will pay a further $ 250 million over the next ten years to
create a public health foundation, affiliated with a university or hospital
and aimed at reducing smoking. The settlement will cover all 46 states
that have reimbursement claims against the industry as well as those that
have not sued."
$ 206 billion would roughly amount to 884000 Crores in Rupees if we treat 1 dollar as equivalent to just 42.50 Rupees for ease of calculation. Perhaps you may also be aware that some the big Cigarette manufacturing companies are going to start operations in India, within a year or two. You can bet that after 50 years, the Government and the Consumer councils will raise the banner against these companies. They would close their mouths shut once they get 1000 Crores as General Compensation and 100 Crores as personal gratification by some selected individuals in positions of power then. Just recollect the Union Carbide case. The Railways pays just Rs 100000 for an Indian, who dies in a Train accident. An American life is worth about 10 Lakhs or more in Indian currency today. You cannot argue that life is a life, be it an American or Indian. The MNCs should pay by International standards |

| My goal / Request: ............................Making Swapna Free to the World |
|
Swapna Hair Enricher, as a Hairsaver, can help
Millions across the World to
retain the God given natural and free, anti aging
Cosmetic aid, the Hair, for a long period of their lives
- say even after 60 years. The site elaborates that with sufficient proofs / supportive details. I am looking for a Philanthropist who can buy Swapna's Technology and make it Free to the World. I lack the finance to retire peacefully now. One cannot preach philosophy on an empty stomach. But I still hate the thought of selling the Technology to Companies, who can milk the public dry. Mad is the epithet that I earn frequently for this approach, now that I have closed my earlier main business. I can wait for one more year. Refer Swapna or Cocolite and think what you can do to meet the above goal |
