It is an independent assessment of a site by a Search Engine / portal from hundreds and thousands of sites, from all parts of the World, in its data bank. Each portal ought to have some basic requirements / parameters / benchmarks as well as Editors too, to judge a site. It is an independent assessment, even if it is mechanical - compared in a way, with relative site contents of many other sites dealing with similar subject / subjects. It gives a fairly approximate if not accurate idea. One Note: In 2000-01, sites used to be manually checked for inclusion in Yahoo Directory. Google, just started / gaining popularity then, had about 4800 entries for hairloss control You can no longer get a pointed result in Google or Yahoo - for 'dandruff remedy' or 'hairloss control', they give out hundred thousand results.
