   Dr  Batras 2

Homeopathic Medicine: The medicine is normally diluted in Lactose [ milk sugar - sugar content in milk ]. Naturally, they would be sweet and liked by kids and pets

The Misleading / Self destructive Advertisement Caption

The advertisement message is on the left side of each section. My comments / views on the contents of the advertisement message is given on the right. The reader has to make his own judgement.

" Homeopathy is 245% more effective than a placebo"   Placebo is a glucose tablet / a replica of the medical tablet but without any medicine

So comparing it with placebo does not really mean anything. One can say homeopathy medicine is 1000% more effective than water.

By using jargons, it tries to show that it says something beneficial - whereas it does not

Source: a report from The Lancet, a leading medical journal, 1997 edition   Were they lauding Homeopathy or having a playful dig ?  [ Lancet and Nature are British Medical Journals dealing mainly with Allopathy ]

Why people believe Homeopathy ?  Reasons lack depth

" 4 Great reasons why millions of people around the world believe in homeopathy   This is a sub heading to the advertisement - and does not substantiate anything of value

Trusted for over 250 years:

England, Germany, France, USA and over 60 other countries legally practice this science.." Over 100 millions users in India alone.

Is part of the global health strategy 'health for all' - has existed in India since 1839. Has full support of the Ministry of Health, Government of India and has received full status as one of the National Systems of Medicine

These general points have nothing to do, for or against Homeopathy or Dr. Batra

    Why Labour them ?

The preferred choice:  - The ad claims that and contradicts in a way

Presidents, Prime Ministers, Royalty, Film Stars, Opinion leaders choose homeopathy over other treatments, even though they have access to the best in medical care   I am confused by this confession that they have preferred something less than the best !

Wish the other hidden factors that made them choose Homeopathy been elaborated !

Homeopathic medicines have been demonstrated to work on infants and animals, which is why it is often the choice of pediatricians and veterinarians abroad.    I was under the impression that people above age 7 can also take these medicines.

These words raises a suspicion !

Evidence based Medicine

53 patients with Fibromyalgia, treated with homeopathy showed significantly greater improvement in tender point count, tender point pain, quality of life and a trend towards less depression compared to those on placebos [ bell, lewis, brooks et al 2004 ] What is also extremely interesting about this study was that the researchers found that people on homeopathic treatment also experienced changes in EEG readings [ source. www.homepathic.com ]   Does not convey anything meaningful

Comparison is with Placebo ! Why not water ?

When the first claim itself is not clear, what is the point of adding another structure to that ?

Other cases of Wilson's disease [ wherein patient's copper levels were significantly lower after taking homeopathic treatment], Myasthenia Gravis [ where Acetyl Cholene receptor antibodies in blood reports were normal after treatment ]

prove the efficacy of homeopathy beyond doubt [ soucre Dr. Batra's]

Why Copper levels should go down is not clear ?

If anti bodies function better, then it can mean efficacy to a lay reader. Otherwise, it a just a vague description

Does it, from the statements made ? It does not

More and more people today choose homeopathy as the first choice of treatment especially in chronic diseases such as asthma, arthritis, chronic allergies, eczema, skin problems, COPD and a gamut of stress related  disorders [ source Dr.Batra's ORMAX report 2001 ]   No proof is presented below for these ailments. And the source is a report made by Dr. Batra - a market analysis report or a medical report or a seller's version ?

Researched and Proven - next sub heading

78 cases of diabetes mellitus type 2 were treated in two groups. Group 1 was treated only with an oral anti-diabetic while Group II as treated with an oral anti-diabetic and homeopathy. After 9 months of parallel treatment, the results in Group I showed 47% improvement while Group II showed 97% improvement as proven through the blood sugar levels [ source: Proc 43rdIMHI Congress, Athens, Greece, 1988, 549-556   What is proved, if this message is taken as true, is that Homeopathy as an extra medicine, may be useful

but on its own,

it does not prove that it is a cure or control.

Clinical trails have that homeopathic drugs may have immuno modulatory effect including stimulation of macrophages [ source www.amsa.org   If you understand something, good. I could not

The Concluding Claim - Unsupported by all the above passages combined

At Dr. Batra's we've spreading the goodness of classical homeopathy using modern technology and following international protocols. We offer specialized and quality treatment for over 50 chronic ailments with affection and care   The advertisement mentions as 'Researched and Proven' only Diabetes. And the proof offered above reads vague

What is the state with the other 49 Chronic ailments that they treat is not a matter of relevance to me. How about You ?

Evidence of which are over 7 lakh patient visits.    Visits do not mean proof. Dissatisfied users have to visit more often. Proof lies with successful cure

So visit Dr. Batra's the world's largest chain of Homeopathy Clinics and experience benefits of positive living with homeopathy   Positive living is provided by Dr. Batra.

Do Others provide negative living ?

.
Dr. Batra's advertisement - unethical, misleading and mischievous ?
.
. . .
. Times of India, Ahmedabad edition, 25-2-2006: Caption: Aap Jaisa Koi Nahin .

. Dr. Batra's advertisement presents 2 photos, side by side below this caption. On the last is a near bald person. The central portion is bald and there is hair on the side. The bald patch is bigger than a Tennis ball. On the right, is another photo with dense hair. He can spare half the hair to the person on the left and still have good density.  .

Misleading ?  When such photos are presented side by side, it is supposed to mean that they are 'before use' and 'after use' photos. This is implied. It does not matter that this is not stated. Otherwise what was the purpose of presenting such photos side by side ?

  Misrepresentation ? 2 different persons ?

1. From the heads, one can easily make out that the photo on the left is of an older person and the one on the right, is of a younger person.  The left side head structure is oval in shape. The head on the right side in elongated oval. The width is less and the length is longer

2. The left side person has a spectacle. The right side person does not. Wonderful ! Eye sight also improves besides hair density !

3. The backdrop in the left with framed 'drawing / picture' indicates a upper middle class person. The balcony / window grill behind the right side person indicates economic disparity / different identity

For aforesaid reasons, the advertisement is unethical and unlawful in my view

Please do not assume that Times of India would accept any responsiblity. Some years back, they ran an advertisement from VLCC where they claimed 40 inches hair growth in 6 months, whereas the normal head hair growth is only 6 inches per year. After these advertisements, VLCC and Times of India were joint sponsors of one 'Filmfare Awards' show. That is reality for you.

The CBI has filed a chargesheet against the Chairman of Bakson’s drugs and pharmaceuticals, who is also the president of the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH), for allegedly regularising 37 homeopathy colleges after they agreed to buy drugs from his company. Bakson’s Drugs & Pharmaceutical Pvt Ltd runs 30 super specialty Homoeopathic Clinics throughout the country.

In a chargesheet filed in a city court on Monday the CBI has accused SPS Bakshi (55), son of a renowned homoeopath, Dr Kirpal Singh Bakshi, of abusing his official position as the president of CCH, a statutory body constituted under the provision of Homeopathy Central Council Act, 1973 and granting recognition to 37 colleges. The council gets grant-in-aid from Ministry of Heath and Family Welfare.

“The extension of recognition was granted to the colleges despite the fact that they did not meet minimum requirements for the bachelor course of Homeopathy”, said the chargesheet.
